Hello My Name Is Blank... |
My thoughts are so random, I often forget who thunk them. |
Cut up vocals, a seductive bass line, and booty-shakin’ beats all caught my attention as I listened to this new, seven minute offering from Hot Chip. These electro-pop musicians from the UK are releasing their fifth album, In Our Heads, in June. This summer is shaping up to be quite the sexy one. Where all my fly folk at?
Loz Contreras - “Break You Down (feat. Sanna Hartfield)”
From the coffeeshop in Little Italy, Manhattan where I am sat, I can see through the windows the crowds of people walking past. I love the way that people in the city are dressed; it looks effortless, but the rest of us know that they’ve spent hours in stores picking out clothes that fit right and time in the morning fixing their jackets so that they look like they were thrown haphazardly over their shoulders. I laugh to myself hearing the snippets of conversation from a woman who is showing around her friend from out of town (“Have you ever been to China? It’s exactly like the streets of Beijing”). I even find the tourists charming; they take so many photos of things because they find them mismatched. When I moved to Chicago, I remember feeling the same way in my poorly tailored pants looking up at the pink buildings right next to the green ones. No one in Plano would have ever let their uniform units diverge so outrageously from the others. I’m grateful for where I grew up, but there’s something undeniable about the way this place feels that makes me never want to go back.
Confidence plus Smiling plus Good Hair equals Pretty
did you know you were beautiful? I did.
This album drops on Monday!
Coldplay - “Hurts Like Heaven”
In November of my senior year of high school, I went with a couple of friends to a Coldplay show. Our seats were so far back that sitting in my seat, my head actually was touching the back wall of the stadium. My friend Meredith had to use the restroom, and I had to stretch my legs, but on the way there, we ran into a member of their staff who handed us 4th row, center stage tickets. I guess they reserved the best seats in house for enthusiastic but poor kids; our entire area was filled with young people with similar stories to ours. They wanted people to jump around and dance and cry right in front of them. Coldplay plays for massive audiences, but they’re still all about creating something personal, too. Mylo Xyloto certainly feels that way; these are tunes that you sing along with your pals on the way home and also songs that you cry with after having your heart broken.
PK Fire started the same way that so many bands start, in basements with friends who just want to play music. In time, their sound has evolved from folk to something a lot fuller, influenced by bands like Two Door Cinema Club, Tokyo Police Club, and Los Campesinos!. Their new EP titled These Bleak Weeks is brutally addictive, embracing an extremely well-produced, layered poppy sound complete with hand claps and a glock. Every song is massive, seemingly created with the intention to stomp and sing along with both at home and live.
The EP is out at midnight. Be sure to pick up a copy at their bandcamp page here.
::M∆DE:IN:HEIGHTS:: - “All the Places”
It’s a little gray here in Austin, Texas. This weekend’s rain brought some much needed relief to the area. We have been experiencing a drought and godawful heat. The temperature’s dropped quite a bit since the rain, and the ground’s still damp. I’m curled up in bed and enjoying this offering from Sabzi of Blue Scholars fame. It’s definitely calmed me down, which is great considering how nervous I was earlier about my genetics midterm. Keep it easy and breezy, folks.
Great tunes.
Thoughts of you have been passing through my mind lately. Memories of five years past creep up in my imagination and blissful moments are replayed. Last year’s life changes are reminiscent and lost. I know we were not meant to be and I have finally given up of the possibility of happiness with you. I have let you go… So why won’t you leave my thoughts? Please, fly away and leave me in peace.
The man who loves me will love me like my best friend… Unconditionally, sincerely, and respectfully. He will listen to my worries and remind me everything will be okay. He will hold me when I am sad and he will allow me to make my mistakes without resentment.
The man who loves me will love me like a gentleman… Courteously, genuinely, and happily. He will open doors for me, he will hold my hand softly as we fall asleep, and he will wake me with a sweet smile in the mornings.
The man who loves me will love me like a lover… Passionately, romantically, and whole-heartily. He will long to be in my embrace. He will surprise me with thoughtful gestures and he will truly want the best for me.
The man who loves me will think I’m forever beautiful. He will adore my quirkiness and he will encourage my dreams. He shower me with kisses and stroke my hair. He will laugh at my mess-ups, teach me new things, and be patient with my faults.
The man who loves me will be loved the same way in return.
